AI and Cybersecurity

“AI is the new electricity” proclaims Andrew Ng, co-founder of Google Brain. Just as we need to know how to safely harness electricity, we also need to know how to securely employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to power our businesses. In some scenarios, the security of AI systems can impact the safety and well-being of humans. Hence, it is imperative that AI systems, including the models and algorithms, be protected against cyber-attacks. On the flip side, AI techniques can also be misused by cyber-adversaries and so we need to understand how to counter them. Cybersecurity professionals, in partnership with AI specialists, would need to enhance their organisations’ cybersecurity strategy and frameworks to take into account the following cybersecurity implications of AI: Security, safety and privacy of AI systems deployed in various business use cases. Strengths and shortcomings of employing AI for cybersecurity defence. AI-aided attack techniques and corresponding mitigations / compensating controls. This course is part of the Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Digital Strategy & Leadership series offered by NUS-ISS.
