Critical Thinking (CT) refers to the disciplined thinking process of actively analysing, synthesizing and evaluating information communicated by others or obtained by observations, experiences, reasoning or reflections. Clear, accurate, precise, consistent and relevant thought processes are standards in CT. In addition, we support CT with sound evidence, good reasons, depth and breadth of analysis, and fairness. CT transcends subject matters and applies to all facets of life. It helps us to form sound opinions, to derive good solutions and to make right decisions. This course introduces participants to fundamentals of CT and identifies poor thinking processes, or fallacies, that we need to avoid. It also provides a tool and a common language with which participants can use to recognize and evaluate information and arguments. The course will be hands-on in nature and we will invite participants to apply CT in real-world situations through a series of engaging exercises.
