Health Economics and Financing (Competence)

'This course addresses the economic and financingaspects of the production, distribution, and organisation ofhealth care services and delivery. This includes thestructure of health care delivery and insurance markets,demand for and supply of health services, pricing ofservices, cost of care, financing mechanisms, and theirimpact on the relevant markets. A special emphasis will begiven to market failures and the role of government in themarket for health services. Through textbook readings anddiscussions of seminal articles and more recent empiricalapplications in health economics, students will learn theeconomic way of thinking. They will be given theopportunity to showcase these skills through a series ofresearch papers written throughout the semester that willculminate with a final manuscript that provides an in-depthanalysis of a critical health issue.'
