Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity Risk Assessment and Risk Management

This course (BRMC 301) is designed to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding in principles of biorisk (biosafety/biosecurity) management system for containment laboratories, in terms of the AMP (Assessment, Mitigation and Performance) model. The main focus of the course is related to the “Assessment and Mitigation” parts of AMP model in biorisk management system. This course also covers relevant local and international legislations/standards/guidelines of biosafety/biosecurity, with an emphasis on local legislations and guidelines. Topics such as regulated biological agents, materials transport and transfer, dual use research concern, and various biosafety and biosecurity risk mitigation measures will also be covered in this course. This course aims to equip learners with the following insights: -Interpret and apply national and international biosafety and biosecurity standards, guidelines, and legislations -Perform biorisk assessment by identifying hazards, determining risk levels and appropriate risk mitigation measures. -Plan and develop appropriate programmes for addressing biorisk, decontamination and waste management as well as occupational health to minimise incidents and accidents at the workplace -Manage risks and threats as well as implement appropriate internal controls to maintain a safe and secure workplace -Develop and integrate appropriate training and communication programmes to enhance staff readiness
