Fundamental Topics in Pharmaceutical Science (Competence)

'This course aims to provide students with basic principlesand knowledge of selected fundamental areas inpharmaceutical science essential to appreciate andunderstand their relevance and applications in drugdiscovery to development of quality drug products.In the area on pharmacological science, this course willintroduce the principles in pharmacokinetics,pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenetics, in order toappreciate the pre-clinical considerations in thepharmaceutical industry and the impact of dosage formdesign on drug release and action.In the area on formulation science, this course willintroduce the principles of formulation, manufacturingtechnology and product quality assurance of a range ofcommonly used pharmaceutical dosage forms.Major topics include:Pharmacological science area � pharmacokineticsprinciples, concepts in drug target identification anddruggability, influence of pharmacogenomics.
