Foundation Engineering (Competence)

'This is an introductory course in foundationengineering. The topics covered include siteinvestigation and interpretation of soil reports,shallow foundations and deep foundations.Students will learn how to use simple foundationsto distribute vertical loads from the superstructureto the underlying soil formation withoutoverstressing the soil (more complex loadingmodes to be discussed in advanced courses).Students are taught the interpretation of siteinvestigation report, derivation of relevant designsoil properties, selection of sensible foundationtype, and verification of capacity and settlementrequirements.'
