Pharmacoepidemiology (Competence)

'This course provides an introduction to the principles andpractical applications of pharmacoepidemiology in theevaluation of the utilization, safety and effectiveness oftherapeutic products (drugs, vaccines, biologics).Examples of case reports, case series, cohort studies,case-control studies, intervention studies, and metaanalysiswill be drawn from recent literature to illustrate theapplication of relevant methods and the challenges in postmarketassessment of therapeutic products. Major topicsinclude: basic principles in pharmacoepidemiology, studydesigns for pharmacoepidemiologic studies, data sources,and therapeutic risk management. Methodologicalconsiderations relevant to pharmacoepidemiology, such asconfounding by indication, will also be introduced.'
