Singapore has come a long way since its independence. As our economy developed and urban landscape transformed, our cultural policies have kept pace, shaped by the aspirations of our nation and people. Arts Administrators work behind the scenes on the behalf of artists, creatives and cultural organisations, providing resources, support and structure for their projects and practices. Often, art administrators face challenges to communicate and engage these stakeholders on the new initiatives and cultural policies in Singapore.
The Future-proofing Creative Economies and the Arts programme will equip arts administrators with better understanding of the key drivers of Singapore’s new arts plan so as to more effectively communicate its aims and objectives. It will introduce the key features of the creative economy from the approaches of cultural policy, arts law, arts business and strategic communication. In this programme, participants will have the opportunity to: (1) examine the economic, cultural and social value of arts and culture; (2) explore the innovation to creativity and its contribution to artistic practice, cultural labour and sustainable arts entrepreneurship; (3) evaluate digital media technologies in producing new artistic forms and enhancing audience development, and; (5) highlight the role of strategic communication in managing sector transformation.
The Learning Outcomes of this 2-day course are to:
• understand the development of the creative economy in Singapore and globally;
• apply the key features of the creative economy to enhance artistic practice and sustainable cultural entrepreneurship;
• appreciate the legal frameworks of intellectual property and the business of the arts;
• recognise the economic, cultural and social impact of the arts;
• communicate the art sector transformation to key stakeholders including artists, audiences and organisations.
