Carbon Neutrality

As global climate mitigation gains momentum, numerous countries have reported net-zero emission targets. Working towards carbon neutrality, or net-zero emissions, by 2050 is now widely believed to be needed to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Countries’ pledges towards net zero are a step beyond the targets submitted under the Paris Climate Agreement for the year 2030. There are different ways that countries have developed the decarbonisation pathways, and their strategies to net zero emissions also differ. This programme introduces the fundamentals, challenges and opportunities of achieving net-zero emissions. A specific focus is to decarbonise cities, where Singapore’s low-emission aspiration and climate actions will be discussed. Through this programme, participants will appreciate the complexity of energy and climate change issues which often involves systems thinking and managing trade-offs.
