Distorted Reality in Psychotic Disorders: Psychotic Disorders and Social Work Intervention (Jan 2021)

This module aims to inform social work practitioners with knowledge (aetiology, symptomology, evidenced-based treatment, treatment challenges) of the more common psychotic disorders such as Psychosis, Schizophrenia and Delusional Disorder. Participants will learn to appreciate their world of persons with psychotic disorders in order to enhance their engagement and supportive work with them and their significant others. It also addresses the relationship between violence and psychotic disorders. Social work intervention approaches to working with persons with these disorders, especially where issues of non-compliance and risks of harm to self and others, will be addressed.
