Structural Steel Design and System (Competence)

'This course aims to equip undergraduate civil engineeringstudents with sufficient design knowledge and skills onsteel structures both for their further education andengineering career. This course provides students withfundamental approaches (based on Eurocode 3) indesigning structural steel components and steel buildings.The scope of this course aligns with the fundamentalrequirement outlined by the Board of SingaporeProfessional Engineers on the design of steel structures.The students will acquire fundamental knowledge andapproaches to perform structural design for steel beams,axially loaded members, connections, portal/industrialbuildings, multi-storey frames, and plated structures. Thisenables the students to conceive a safe and economicalstructural steel system. The course is targeted at thirdyear civil engineering students and those with a keeninterest on steel structural design.'
